Being a Big Brother ...

It's been a while since my sweet boy has gotten an update that is all his own.  We continue to be amazed my how much he picks up and absorbs in the works around him.  Just this morning he decided that he wanted to pick out his own pants.  He insisted that he wear khaki pants.  So I got him dressed, thinking that was a really random choice, bit happy to avoid the "we can't wear pajama pants to go out" conversation.   He immediately ran to the living room and told Matt, "Look at my pants!  They are like Daddy!"   Matt wears khaki pants everyday to work.  We have never had a conversation about what kind of pants Daddy wears, he just noticed it.

He is also picking up a lot from games we play, puzzles, and a few tv shows that we let him watch.  He picked up the Boppy pillow I use for his sisters and said it was a tuba.  ("Where did you learn about tubas?!?!?"  "Donald Duck plays a tuba Mommy!"   Oh.).

We have also had so many family members and friend in our house lately to help withy the twins.  And he is LOVING getting to play with his aunts, uncles, and grandparents more often.

He even got to spend a week at Gamma and Poppy's house all by himself!  He could run, scream, play games, and just be a 2 year old without having to deal with his sisters.   And it looks like he has fun!

Jordan came to visit too ...
Not in the Mood to Hold Hands

The two of us try to have "Super Special Dates" while Daddy stays home to take care of the twins.  This is really the only time that I can just play, talk, and be silly with him without being interrupted.  Even when I'm exhausted from being up all night, I look forward to these dates.

A Rare Post Nap Snuggle
These used to happen every day, and I've really been missing my snuggle time with him.  It just makes is sweeter when we DO find the time for it now.  And it allows me to soak in in just that much more.

He entertains himself pretty easily, which is good since I spend so much time with his sisters lately. I love watching him start to use his imagination.  He makes up songs, (which he won't let me capture on camera), makes his "go-gos" talk to each other and race, and even uses spoons and cups to make up stories.

He also repeats EVERYTHING we say.  He does the normal repeating words (the most random ones you wouldn't even expect), but he also repeats whole conversations to any other adult in the room. Just in case you didn't hear it.  So if I say, "Hey Buddy, finish your dinner and then you and Mommy can go play puzzles," he will turn to Matt (who is sitting right next to me) and say, "Daddy! Imma eat my dinner. And Mommy.  Then Mommy and I play PUZZLES! Riiiight Mommy?"   It's so cute because we can see exactly what he is comprehending.  And the sentences and thoughts he puts together are pretty complicated for such  little person.  Just evidence of a little brain a work.  Love this stage!

He does a pretty good job these days of pronouncing everything correctly, but he has a couple of words that are still "Barrett-isms":
  • "bank you/banks" = thank you/thanks
  • "hausible" = hospital
  • "geaux-geauxs" = go-go's (cars)
  • "what is that is Mommy/Daddy?" = what is that?
  • "elvagator" = elevator
  • "AMMamals" = animals
  • "butter sammage" = peanut butter and jelly sandwich
  • "compoooooter" = computer
  • "carrots and thomas" = carrots and hummus

And a few random pictures:

Little B, you are growing up way too fast for us. I know, I say that in almost every blog post. It's true though!  But we are enjoying every stage. And love watching everything you learn from the world around you, and watching you learn how to be a big brother.  When the twins get bigger, they are going to have so much fun playing "go-gos" with you.
