One day a sweet girl came to my door selling yummy desserts for a school fundraiser. I NEVER buy that stuff, but I was very pregnant. With twins. Twin girls, which caused an incredible sweet tooth. She asked tons of question about the twins, and Barrett, told me about her family and that she loves kids. I jokingly said, "Hey, if you ever want to hold a baby or two ... You know where I live now!"
The next time I saw her was when she delivered my chocolate and peanut butter cream pie. (That sweet tooth was NO joke!). I waddled to the door, ready to have a couple of babies in just a few weeks at this point. After one look at me, she came inside to help me put my new pie in the freezer. (Which I'm pretty sure I took out about 5 seconds after she left). Although Barrett was napping, and she still hadn't met him, she insisted he needed a play date with her little sister. And that she would be back once the twins were born because she loves babies. I smiled at her and said, "sure!" But I really thought I wouldn't see much of her after that.
Through a series of coincidences we realized that her dad worked with Matt, and they actually knew each other. This made us a little less of a "stanger" to her family ..... And was probably part of the reason London, the girl who sold me the pie, started showing up after school.
Sweet London started coming over about twice a week. She is like a little grown up in a kid's body! Barrett LOVES HER she is so good with the babies. She volunteers to change them, play with them, make their bottles, feed them, and basically is an an extra set of hands for me. She has this intuition about what they might need and just takes care of diapers, spit up, and moves them to a new place or toy when they get cranky and need a new place to play. If she was just a little older, I would have let her babysit my kids to go run errands. (I have to keep telling myself that she isn't physically old enough for that yet. But soon!)
Today she is moving. Not far. She'll still be close, but not close enough to text me to tell me she's walking down the street to my house. And then show up at my door in 30 seconds. After my kids decide to not take a nap at the same time so I can rest a little too.
