Thanksgiving Week

Ignore the fact that he is wearing the same sweater in these pictures as he was in the previous post!  I guess it was a good buy!

Daddy was able to stay home all week this week.  So we took advantage of him being home with us.  We decorated the house for Christmas, finished the Christmas lights outside, went to the zoo, and then headed out of town for Thanksgiving!

The week started off at the zoo.  We had so much fun because Barrett is starting to interact with us when he sees the animals.  The monkeys were all out and ready to play (we usually catch them during their nap time), and Barrett pointed to each one to make sure we saw them all!

Then we headed to College Station to spend Thanksgiving with Gamma, Poppy, Uncle Kyle, and Aunt Lindsey and Uncle Chris.  They all loved watching him play and show off his new skills.  He's so close to taking off and walking on his own, and he got LOTS of practice this week at Gamma and Poppy's house!

Only Picture We Actually Took on Thanksgiving Day!

On Saturday we all headed back to Dallas for Papa Fred's 80th Birthday Party.  Barrett just met Papa Fred for the first time earlier this week, and getting to see him twice in one week was just the icing on the cake.
Gamma's whole family was there ... and that meant lots of kids for Barrett to play with!  The party room was huge, so there was definitely room to play.  Barrett is one of the younger kids ... only 2 of them can't walk yet.  But he wanted to go play with the big kids so badly!!!

By the end of the night he had enough courage to take about 15 steps at a time.  That's the farthest he's ever gone without toppling over.  I think watching all the other kids play was just the motivation he needed.  (I better finish baby proofing the house ... and FAST!)

I may have been like 7 the last time we took a picture like this!

And a Picture With the Birthday Boy Himself!

We had a GREAT Thanksgiving Week!  And I know it was just a warm up for things to come.  We are looking forward to the Christmas Season and experiencing it all with our favorite Little Elf!

Fall Weather

We are loving playing outside in this fall weather!  We have taken many walks to our neighborhood park the past few weeks to play in this beautiful weather.  A few days ago, Gamma and Poppy were in town so we brought them with us!

We also spent an afternoon outside watching Daddy put up the Christmas lights.

Little Man wanted in on the action ..... so he started helping!
(Photos of the completed project are to come!)

Halloween

We dressed Barrett up and took him trick or treating for the first time this year.  Ok ... we maybe didn't actually trick or treat as much as we walked up and down the street holding our cute Monkey.

Tuesday night we took him to a Fall Festival.  He was completely overwhelmed and under-impressed that we didn't stay long. But he did have fun playing with some of the toys that were set out for babies and in the petting zoo.  (The story of how I was completely freaked out while we were in the petting zoo and how a goat tried to eat my shirt is a different story.)

We put him back in his Monkey suit on Halloween so he could help us pass out candy and go down the street with us.  Then he surprised us by deciding to take his first steps!  Maybe he was motivated by watching all the other kids in the neighborhood running around outside. :) We were glad Gamma was here so we had an extra pair of hands to capture his very first steps on video!.

Check out the video to see how our night went!

Happy Halloween!

One is Fun

As we were recovering from the big birthday party, we spent some quality time just playing with our big boy!

First, we had his one year doctor's appointment. Barrett is in the 90th percentile in height and the 80th percentile in weight.  He's such a big boy!  (However, I can't seem to find clothes to FIT him!  The 12 month pants are too short, and the 18 month pants are way to big!  Those seem to be my 2 options.)  The doctor was impressed that Barrett was able to say more than just "mama" and "dada."  As you can see below, he doesn't have a huge vocabulary my any means, but he has mastered a few words.

Then, we went to College Station to see Gamma and Poppy on our way to Houston.  For some reason, Barrett always decides to learn something new while we are there.  Gamma and Poppy have a ring stack toy that lights up and plays music.  While Barrett's never really shown much interest in this toy before (we have one at home too ... but it's not nearly as fancy!), he became obsessed with stacking the rings on the post.  He had never been able to do this before.  And since he's starting to repeat things we say, we thought it would be funny to teach him to say "boom" each time he stacked a ring.  Each time he stacked a ring he looked up at us and said, "beeaaaauuum" with a sparkle in his eye.  He was so proud of himself!

Next, we headed to Houston because I had a wedding shower for one of my sorority sisters.  Which meant we got to visit Aunt Lindsey AND see all of his Zeta Aunts!

Barrett is also learning so many new words and ways to communicate.
Somehow he learned to say "Where Did It Go" by putting his palms up and saying "go?"

Wondering where his pancake is ... He ate it.

Here he is wondering what I'm doing while I was cooking dinner.  I looked down because I heard him saying "go?   go?"

He's also learning to say "please."

Barrett's favorite toys still seem to be his books ...

... but he is also loving his new toys he got for his birthday!
His "GoGo"
He will scoot around the house on this fire engine while saying "go go go go."  He loves to move!

This is his other "GoGo." Whenever he notices one of these toys laying around the house he points at it and says "GoGo!"

Pumpkin Patch Birthday

Every birthday should start off with family pictures!

 Daddy and Mommy

Why Do These 2 Keep Pointing at Me?!?!

After the big birthday party celebration on Saturday, we got to spend Sunday with our little TODDLER.  We went to breakfast with Gamma, Poppy, and Aunt Lindsey.  And I ordered food for Barrett at a restaurant for the first time ever!  He loooved his pancake from Main Street Cafe.

"Where'd It Go?" ...  After Finishing the Pancake

After breakfast, and naptime, we took Barrett to his very first Pumpkin Patch.  Nana, Aunt Kelley, Aunt Rachel, and Aunt Mary decided to come with us!  Halls Farms is just down the street from their house, so we just walked over there.
Last year, right after he was born, I wanted to take him so badly!  I couldn't wait until this fall to roll around so that we could take those cool fall pictures.  Matt did SUCH a good job taking pictures of him!  (And I obviously had a hard time picking just a FEW pictures)

Definitely a fun, family, birthday day!  We love you Barrett! Welcome to toddler-hood!

12 Months

Barrett is 12 months old.  I can't believe it!

We have had a year filled with such joy, I don't think I will ever find the words to describe it.  We also had many sleepless nights, dirty diapers, unexplained crying, and lots of spit up.  But this little guy has forever changed our hearts and our lives.  I never knew love could run this deep.  And there is nothing in the whole world that I would rather do than take care of my sweet boy every single day.

Here are some of our favorite pics from our last monthly photo shoot ever!

And then I had to jump in on the action:

Things I Don't Want to Forget
  • how funny I think it is when he says " no no no" to me.  And he keeps doing whatever I told him not to do. I know by this time next year that will probably drive me crazy!
  • how he drops everything and heads to the door (as fast as he can crawl) the second he hears the door open when Daddy comes home from work
  • the expression in his eyes when he smiles at someone
  • how he loves to "read" his books
  • the excitement we feel when he "walks" us us.  We still have to help him quite a bit, but the determination is there!
  • rocking him to sleep every night, while he is laying on my chest, giving me the biggest bear hug
  • splash time during bath time
  • how he says "ba ba ba" and waves to himself every time we leave the house
